Elf: Music From The Motion Picture

Day two of Christmas album reviews. Day one I feel went well, so I was a bit more excited than I was yesterday. I also got all my Christmas shopping done yesterday (yes, I procrastinate) but it was a successful day. On to Elf. In case you haven't seen it, it's a pretty solid film. Will Ferrell plays 'Buddy' the Elf that comes down to New York from the North Pole. Why you ask? Because he's a large elf that doesn't blend in with the others. Turns out, his father is a real human, while his mom was an elf. So he wanted to come find his real dad. The long and short of it, the film explores the lack of holiday spirit in today's society. And there are a bunch of shenanigans and whatnot along the way. The whole film is set to the tone of a variety of Christmas carols. Pretty neat. There are goods and bads to this soundtrack. The reason I think it's good or great, is because the songs are as they intended. I focused yesterday on remakes and new tracks. This is nothing but classics. You can't go wrong with that. The bad part, Zooey Deschanel gave a GREAT rendition of 'Baby It's Cold Outside' during the film. I was hoping to hear her version on this album too. Alas, not there. Regardless, I think this is a very easy way to buy a fantastic selection of Christmas classics. You can even remind yourself what scene was what when each song comes on the cd player. Fun little way to enjoy it a bit more if you loved the movie. ENJOY!
